Eliminate pop-up windows when browsing

How can I stop Internet Explorer opening pop-up windows?

A number of programs will keep pop-up windows from opening. One of the best is Proxomitron by Scott R Lemmon. This can also banish banners, counters and other unwanted web elements. Download the Proxomitron from PC Advisor's Download Directory at www.pcadvisor.co.uk/registered.

Proxomitron requires that you change your proxy settings. In Internet Explorer 5.0, select Tools, Internet Options and click the Connections tab. If you're using a modem, select your preferred dialup setting and click Settings. If you have a cable or DSL connection to the internet, click LAN Settings. Either way, check Use a proxy server. Enter localhost in the Address field and 8080 in the Port field. Click ok until you're back in your browser. See also tip Eliminate ad banners when browsing.
